Jared Downs:

Crystal's cousin and the story's narrator, he tells the tale of his cousin's coming-of-age from his own jaded perspective. A long time pursuant of an indistinguishable dream, Jared spots Crystal's triumphs and pitfalls before they even happen. His demoralized friends, sardonic demeanor, and defeatist mindset are a black and white contradiction to Crystal's innocence. Together they will either help bring Jared back to buoyancy or Crystal down to the pits of the shameless entertainment industry.

Benson McGraw:

Loving yet unintelligent, Crystal's long term boyfriend is untrained in how to treat his girl properly. He places his own priorities at the top of his list and flouts all indications that his relationship is dying. When Crystal moves to Nashville his ignorance takes them further away from each other, until he discovers ways of winning her heart that only a wholeheartedly devoted partner could do.

Rugby:

Mysterious and aloof, this stoic cowboy songwriter walks through the world with a rigid face and an intimidating appearance. He swiftly becomes Jared's self-professed arch nemesis, but Crystal's knight in shining armor. Although he outwardly presents his repugnance of anyone, including Crystal, she is the only one who won't let him be. Most find his lyrics to project brilliance, but she believes his words suggest an unresolved scar across his guarded heart.
